The European Union will strengthen sanctions against Russia

EU admits strengthening of sanctions against Russia if the situation in eastern Ukraine deteriorates.

EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn said this at a meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, which was held in Brussels on Monday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.

If the situation worsens, then, of course, the EU will face the need to study further, tougher sanctions against Russia, the commissioner said.

However, he noted that it was important for the EU to leave an opportunity for dialogue with Russia.
