The Foreign Ministry’s statement on the presidential election in Ukraine

The Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Hungary welcomes that both rounds of the presidential election in Ukraine met international democratic norms. The electoral procedure and the high turnout of voters sent an important message to the international community – sharing the same values and principles – on Ukraine’s democratic transition and political maturity of its citizens.

As far as Hungary is concerned, Ukraine, a neighbour and friend, is a partner of outstanding importance whose close and broad cooperation we seek both on a bilateral level and in the framework of the European Union’s Eastern Partnership Programme.

Hungary is interested in the success of the political and economic transformation process in our largest neighbour thereby preserving the rights needed to protect fully the identity of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia. Hungary continues to be ready to offer support and assistance in achieving these goals.
