Eighty long-term and 600 short-term observers of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) will be deployed in Ukraine to monitor the progress of the early parliamentary election.

At a press briefing in Kyiv on Friday OSCE head Tana de Zulueta said that 80 long-term observers would arrive in Ukraine next week and 600 short-term observers would be invited to the polling day. According to de Zulueta, short-term observers will come to Ukraine the day before the election. One intermediate election report will be drafted and a preliminary report will be presented at a press conference the day after voting, she said. De Zulueta said the observers would assess the compliance of the electoral process with national laws, Ukraine's commitments to the OSCE and other international standards of democratic elections. Mission experts will meet with members of Ukrainian political parties and parliament candidates, she added. On the day of the ballot, the observers will witness the opening of polling stations, the voting process and vote-counting at all levels. Ukraine will hold early parliamentary elections on October 26.
