“We’ll intensify the efforts. The new authority has not abandoned the declared goals,” Tarasyuk said at a joint press conference with EU Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner in Kiev on Thursday. The minister said Ukraine has already made a number of statements about the readiness and desire to join the North Atlantic alliance.
Commenting on the forthcoming NATO Council summit to be held in Brussels on February 22 Tarasyuk pointed out that it is an opportunity for President Viktor Yushchenko to familiarise Ukrainian partners with the country’s intention to join the organisation and with the internal political situation in the country.
“The Ukrainian president in Brussels is to discus the deepening of relations between Ukraine and NATO,” the foreign minister said.
