Holidaymakers warned of rise in measles

Measles cases in Britain tripled last year as the disease surged across Europe.

More than 80,000 people caught measles in 2018 across 47 European countries, 15 times as many as two years before.

Dozens died in outbreaks that have been attributed to the rise of anti-vaccine sentiment among populist politicians in parts of Europe, as well as disruption caused by civil war in Ukraine, where most cases were seen.

However, the World Health Organisation said that there were signs of progress as vaccination coverage rose last year after a Europe-wide push to fight the disease.
