Without a doubt, you read that correctly: ten years. eBay was created throughout September 1995, by a man referred to as Pierre Omidyar, who was living inside San Jose. He wanted his web-site - then called 'AuctionWeb' - to get an online marketplace, and wrote the first code for this in one weekend. It was one of the first websites of its kind on the planet. The name 'eBay' emanates from the domain Omidyar used for his site. His company's name ended up being Echo Bay コーチバッグ, and the 'eBay AuctionWeb' was originally just one single part of Echo Bay's website at ebay.com. The first thing ever sold on the site was Omidyar's broken laser pointer, which he got $14 for. The site quickly grew to be massively popular, as sellers came to list all sorts of odd things and purchasers actually bought them. Relying on trust did actually work remarkably well, and meant that your website could almost be left alone running itself. The site had been designed from your start to collect a small fee on each purchase, and it was that money that Omidyar used to pay for AuctionWeb's expansion. The fees quickly added about more than his recent salary, and so he thought to quit his job and work on the webpage full-time. It was at this point, in 1996, that he added this feedback facilities, to let buyers and sellers rate both and make investing safer. In 1997, Omidyar changed コーチ AuctionWeb's - and his company's : name to 'eBay', which is what people had been calling the site for long periods. He began to spend a lot of money on advertising, and had the eBay company logo designed. It was in this holiday season that the one-millionth piece was sold (it was a toy version regarding Big Bird from Sesame Block).
