Suazo heaped further misery on Morelia with his second goal of the night on 71 minutes, but missed a golden chance for a hat-trick moments later, somehow contriving to clip the ball over from close range with the open goal at his mercy.

The second half was played at a frantic pace and there was still time for substitute Walter Ayovi to grab a fourth for Monterrey, slotting low into the right of the net in the 82nd minute.
