The opening period saw both sides squander a number of chances, before Suazo slotted home a controversial spot-kick on the stroke of half-time. Title holder Monterrey cruised into the semi finals of the CONCACAF Champions League with a deserved 4-1 victory over Monarcas Morelia in a lively and open game on Tuesday.

Suazo heaped further misery on Morelia with his second goal of the night on 71 minutes, but missed a golden chance for a hat-trick moments later, somehow contriving to clip the ball over from close range with the open goal at his mercy.
