16 Ukrainian soldiers captured in Donetsk airport

    Sixteen Ukrainian soldiers have been wounded and captured during the fighting for the Donetsk airport, the press service of Ukraine's Defence Ministry reported.

    "Sixteen members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been wounded and captured by the terrorists during the fighting," the press service reported.

    The negotiations on release of the wounded Ukrainian military, captured by terrorists, continue, ATO spokesman Andriy Lysenko said at a briefing at the Ukrainian crisis media center, Ukrinform reported. "Currently, very serious negotiations on release of those wounded, who became hostages of militants, are being conducted," Lysenko said. According to him, there is "some success, we hope to return soldiers in the near future." ATO spokesman added that new Ukrainian volunteer battalion of five hundred people was ready to go to the east.

    Constant increase in enemy's forces along the frontline allows to anticipate powerful offensive operations in the near future, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security Council Oleksandr Turchynov said.

    He also noted that the situation at Donetsk airpirt remains the most difficult. In fact, the new terminal is completely destroyed, but Ukrainian armed forces consolidated their positions in the area of the Pisky village and dealt a seties of very strong blows to the enemy.

    During the past 24 hours the militants launched multiple but fruitless attacks on positions of the Ukrainian troops near Mariupol; all the terrorist attacks were repelled, Information Resistance group leader Dmytro Tymchuk posted on Facebook.

    "Intense fighting continues near Mariupol. Forward groups of Russian-and-terrorist troops failed to move northeast or north direction of this town," Tymchuk wrote. He said that particularly intense fighting and shelling had been noticed near villages of Pavlopil and Sartana, Donetsk region. The enemy artillery launches a massive fire on the advanced positions of Ukrainian troops, trying to create conditions for further moving of militant groups.
