Ukraine President Viktor Yushchenko said he has given no immunity guarantees to ex-President Leonid Kuchma regarding the 2000 killing of investigative journalist Heorhiy Gongadze, his office said today.Kuchma’s critics have implicated him in Gongadze’s death. Kuchma, who testified in the case last week, has denied the allegations.
“Each citizen of Ukraine is equal before the law,” Yushchenko said, according to a statement distributed by his office.
“Everyone who violated the law must be responsible for the law.”
He added, however, that his government had no plans to ”hold a witchhunt.”
