President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko introduced new Defense Minister of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak to the personnel of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Introducing Stepan Poltorak, the Head of State noted that the new Minister was an experienced serviceman that had a deserved authority among militaries: from soldiers to generals. "In the course of my visits to the ATO area, I had an opportunity to communicate with militaries and discuss the candidature of Stepan Poltorak. I can say that he has a great reputation in the army," Petro Poroshenko said.
Addressing the newly appointed Defense Minister, the President noted that he had a series of important tasks on the elaboration of a new defense strategy, the adjustment of military doctrine and the development of a new state program of the Armed Forces' development.
"It is a great advance and a great challenge, but I am confident that he will withstand. I count on organizational experience of general Poltorak, his skills in developing logistics and organizing supply for the troops. The army must be provided with modern samples of precision weapons," the Head of State said.
Speaking of re-equipment and reinforcement of the Armed Forces, Petro Poroshenko emphasized the necessity of prompt elaboration and clarification of the state defense order with respective changes to the budget for 2015. "Every serviceman must be equipped with means of individual protection that will reliably protect his life," the President said.
The newly appointed Minister must eliminate all bureaucratic obstacles that prevent the Armed Forces from receiving the necessary equipment in time and intensify cooperation with volunteers and military commissars, the President stressed. "Military commissars must be symbols of heroism instead of being symbols of corruption. That's why reputable servicemen that have an experience in the ATO area must become military commissars," Petro Poroshenko noted.
At the end of his speech, the President addressed the participants of the meeting: "Every fair and decent officer will receive my protection and support. I will not let anyone offend the army, but we must build people's trust in the army".
The Head of State also expressed gratitude to Valeriy Heletey for his service at the post of Defense Minister and wished the newly appointed Defense Minister a successful and fruitful work.
