92 persons die of influenza in Ukraine
This was diusclosed by head of the parliamentary health committee Tetiana Bakhteyeva today to the press. According to her, 92 people died since the start of the epidemic, including 6 children, 4 pregnant women and 4 physicians.

Bakhteyeva also said the number of influenza and ARI patients totals 633,000 people as of November 5. Besides, she added that 28,000 persons are now under indoor treatment, of them - more than 4,000 physicians.


European Union to provide Ukraine with humanitarian aid in connection with flu epidemic

he European Commission attentively follows flu developments in Ukraine, and intends to provide coordinated assistance together with the World Health Organization and EU member-countries. Austria has already expressed preparedness to send to Ukraine about 500,000 safety masks and disinfection means. Hungary is planning to send 10,000 doses of anti-flu vaccine, and Slovakia has already sent 200,000 respirators.


Scope of flu epidemic, including California virus, is immense in Ukraine
This is what Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko told reporters. "We have specific risk factors, aggravating the epidemic exactly in Ukraine, which is seen from findings of both the National Security and Defense Council and international experts," the head of state said.

Yushchenko emphasized that Ukraine was hit by three at once hard virus infectious agents - two seasonal and Californian flues. Virologists say, as a result of mutations, this combination of infections may produce an even more aggressive new virus."That is why I addressed the United Nations with the request to conduct a virology expert examination of Ukraine, and set up an appropriate laboratory to take efficient anti-epidemic measures," the President emphasized.


World Health Organization to work in Ukraine for two weeks to evaluate epidemic situation
A WHO will determine the nature of the infection, and outline practical recommendations concerning Ukraine's specific demand for vaccines, individual hygiene means, antivirus preparations, equipment for intensive therapy, and other types of medical devices to combat the flu.

The main objectives of the mission are also to work out practical recommendations for the use of the humanitarian aid opportunities in order to cut the number of lethal cases, slow down the pace of the epidemic spread, and guarantee effective protection of medicos.
