If Chelsea are to attract a top manager such as Guardiola, they will most likely need to be able to offer Champions League football and to do that they must win the competition this season. The list of Chelsea managers over the last few years features the names of some of the best coaches in world football. If Chelsea win the tournament and still don't give Di Matteo a chance in the hot seat, they may soon find that the high turnover of great managers has put many potential candidates off.
Chelsea have been rejuvenated under the popular Di Matteo. The results and performances have been reminiscent of the Chelsea of four years ago. The players who where thought of as ageing stars who where past their best under previous manager Andre Villas Boas have rolled back the years to produce some excellent displays. Even fifty million pound misfit Fernando Torres has shown flickers of the talent which persuaded Chelsea to part with a massive transfer fee for his services.

Despite Di Matteo's impressive few months in charge, rumours still persist that at the end of the season, Chelsea will attempt to persuade outgoing Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola that his future lies at Stamford Bridge.
